Burkina Faso/FBF: Oumarou Sawadogo now at the head of the football body

Colonel Major Oumarou Sawadogo has been elected as the new president of the Burkina Faso Football Federation (FBF) during the organization’s Ordinary General Assembly on Saturday, August 31, 2024.

Sawadogo, who was the sole candidate for the position, succeeds Lazare Banssé and will serve a four-year term.

The outgoing president, Lazare Banssé, urged the Burkinabe football community to offer their unwavering support and trust to the new leader, emphasizing the need for a calm and focused management of the federation to advance football in the country.

Sawadogo secured his position with an overwhelming majority, receiving 203 out of 210 votes, representing 99.02% of the total.

It’s worth noting that Sawadogo’s competitors were disqualified during the candidacy verification process.

Reflecting on the history of the FBF, Banssé highlighted that the federation has seen 15 different presidents in its 60 years of existence.

He pointed out that this chronic instability has significantly hindered the development of Burkinabe football.
