FIFA Foundation brings digital education to Africa: Mauritania first to Join
The FIFA Foundation’s digital education program, first launched in 2023 in Belize, continues its global expansion, with Africa now in focus. Mauritania has become the first African country to benefit from this initiative, which leverages the power of football to teach digital skills to students.
On Friday, September 13, the FIFA Foundation announced the official launch of the program in Africa. In a statement, the foundation highlighted the significance of this milestone, emphasizing the successful results already seen in other countries. “Football has a unique power to inspire and educate, and we are excited to harness that for this project,” the foundation said.
In partnership with Mauritania’s Ministry of Education and the Mauritanian Football Federation, an agreement was signed aiming to reach 10,000 Mauritanian students aged 6 to 12 over the next three years.
These students will receive training in coding, robotics, and digital literacy in an engaging and motivating environment.
The program integrates football-related concepts into the classroom, encouraging students to explore technology while developing problem-solving, creativity, and teamwork skills.
Practical activities include programming football simulations, designing robots for mini-tournaments, and using sensors to track performance, making the learning process interactive and relevant.
Additionally, the program provides technological equipment such as netbooks and projectors, alongside teacher training.
Beyond improving digital literacy, the goal is to equip the next generation with essential tools to succeed in an increasingly digital world.
Before its African debut, the program was launched in Paraguay in June 2024, reaching 20,000 students, and in Belize, where it began in 2023 with 10,000 students.
The program’s expansion to Africa highlights its importance in preparing young people for the future by fostering key digital skills through their passion for football.
This educational initiative offers a valuable opportunity for the new generation in Africa to better navigate future challenges with the digital competencies they will acquire.
