Burkina Faso: President Ibrahim Traoré or a leader’s vision of openness to mobilise the diaspora to help rebuild the country

President Ibrahim Traoré of Burkina Faso has reaffirmed his commitment to uniting all Burkinabe citizens, including those from the diaspora, to actively contribute to the nation’s reconstruction efforts.

During a meeting with a delegation from the organizing committee of the 2nd Diaspora Entrepreneurs Forum, held in September in Bobo-Dioulasso, the President expressed his satisfaction with the growing interest of Burkinabè living abroad in investing in their homeland.

The delegation, led by Romuald Sawadogo, the committee’s president, provided the President with a report on the forum, which focused on the theme “Diaspora Investments in Present-Day Burkina Faso: Business Opportunities and Patriotism.”

President Traoré’s enthusiasm for these initiatives reflects his policy of openness, aiming to fully involve the diaspora in the country’s economic and social recovery.

However, the discussions also highlighted significant challenges, particularly the bureaucratic hurdles that hinder investments. In response, President Traoré expressed his intent to streamline procedures and remove barriers to facilitate investment projects from the diaspora.

This constructive dialogue between the diaspora entrepreneurs and the Head of State underscores President Traoré’s determination to rally all the nation’s vital forces around a common goal: to revitalize Burkina Faso and build a prosperous future for all.
