DRC: President Félix Tshisekedi on a state visit to Hungary to strengthen bilateral cooperation

The President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Félix Tshisekedi, has arrived in Budapest, Hungary, for a three-day state visit at the invitation of Hungarian authorities. This trip signifies a key moment in the evolving relationship between the DRC and Hungary, with a primary focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation across several strategic sectors.

During his stay, President Tshisekedi is scheduled to engage in a series of high-level discussions with key Hungarian leaders, including President Katalin Novák and Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

These meetings will provide a platform for both nations to address important geopolitical, economic, and security issues, while also exploring avenues for deeper collaboration.

A major highlight of the visit will be the signing of several cooperation agreements. These agreements are expected to span areas such as education, agriculture, information technology, and infrastructure development.

Hungary, a Central European nation with a strong industrial and technological base, views the DRC as a valuable strategic partner in Africa, recognizing its vast natural resources and significant economic potential.

This state visit aligns with President Tshisekedi’s proactive foreign policy, which aims to diversify the DRC’s international partnerships by fostering stronger ties with Central and Eastern European countries.

By building relationships with Hungary, the DRC hopes to attract investment in critical sectors and tap into Hungarian expertise in infrastructure and technological advancements.

For the DRC, this visit also serves as an opportunity to enhance its international profile, positioning itself as a rising nation eager to expand its diplomatic and economic engagements on the global stage.
