Mali: President Assimi Goïta denounces the complicity of foreign powers in the insecurity in the Sahel region

In a bold statement, General Assimi Goïta, the President of Mali’s transitional government, has accused certain foreign powers of playing a role in perpetuating the terrorism destabilizing the Sahel region.

Speaking during a recent address, Goïta pointed to disturbing political and military maneuvers that he believes contribute to maintaining a climate of instability in the region.

The Malian leader claims that covert foreign interventions are actively supporting terrorist groups, with the underlying goal of maintaining indirect control over the region’s valuable natural resources.

These serious allegations come at a time when Mali, under Goïta’s leadership, is shifting its foreign policy, distancing itself from traditional allies and seeking new partnerships with non-Western nations.

This declaration underscores Bamako’s resolve to reclaim its sovereignty over both security and political affairs.

By strengthening its military capabilities and calling for increased regional cooperation among Sahelian countries, Mali aims to combat transnational threats more effectively.

The implications of these remarks are significant, as they could reshape the geopolitical dynamics in the Sahel, potentially altering international relations and the broader fight against terrorism in the region.
