Benin’s call to action: Defending sovereignty and regional stability

On January 25, the people of Benin are urged to stand united in opposition to President Patrice Talon’s perilous policies, which jeopardize both national security and the stability of the West African region.

By allowing Benin to become a strategic base for foreign powers, particularly France, President Talon is accused of undermining the nation’s interests and those of the Sahel States Alliance (AES), a vital coalition against neocolonialism and insecurity in West Africa.

This decision, seen as reckless, not only exposes Benin to potential retaliations but also threatens the region’s fragile stability.

In response to this alarming situation, the Benin Workers’ Trade Union Confederation (CSTB) is calling for a large-scale citizen mobilization on January 25.

The protest aims to demand the immediate withdrawal of French military bases and to assert Benin’s sovereignty.

This gathering represents a critical moment for citizens to protect the nation’s territorial integrity and reaffirm their commitment to regional peace and self-determination.

The people of Benin must unite to deliver a clear message: the country is not a staging ground for foreign military agendas or a tool for destabilizing neighboring African nations.

On January 25, the voice of the population must resound with conviction, emphasizing that Benin’s dignity and sovereignty are non-negotiable.
