Champions League: Pep Guardiola frustrated by packed schedule ahead of Real Madrid Clash

Manchester City Manager Pep Guardiola has voiced his frustration over the demanding fixture schedule as his team prepares for a crucial Champions League showdown against Real Madrid. The Citizens, drawn against the Spanish giants for the fourth consecutive season, face a grueling stretch of matches in both domestic and European competitions.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of City’s Premier League clash with Arsenal, Guardiola acknowledged the difficulty of facing Real Madrid but emphasized his team’s resilience.

“Four years in a row against Madrid—it’s starting to feel like a derby,” he said. However, his primary concern was not the opponent but the relentless schedule.

The Spanish coach criticized the lack of recovery time between high-stakes fixtures, pointing out that his squad must contend with both European powerhouses and tough domestic rivals.

“It’s always been like this. We had Paris, then Chelsea, now Madrid, and in between, we play Newcastle. Broadcasters decide, not the managers,” he lamented.

Despite the challenges, Guardiola remains determined, recalling past successes under similar conditions.

“We won a treble last season with this schedule. We survive.” As City fights on multiple fronts, Guardiola’s frustration highlights the growing debate over fixture congestion and player welfare in elite football.
