Rugby/Morocco secures Rugby Africa Cup return after four-Year hiatus

The Moroccan national rugby team, the Atlas Lions, have made a triumphant return to the Rugby Africa Cup (RAC) after a four-year absence. Their 26-12 victory over Tunisia in a playoff match at Stade Père Jégo in Casablanca on Sunday sealed their qualification for the 2025 tournament, set to take place in Uganda next July.

Once a dominant force in African rugby, with back-to-back titles in 2005 and 2007, Morocco has struggled in recent years. This qualification marks a significant comeback, reigniting hopes for a return to glory. The team’s performance against Tunisia showcased their determination to reclaim their place among Africa’s rugby elite.

The stakes are high for the upcoming RAC, as the winner will secure direct qualification for the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia. The runner-up will have a chance to compete in the Nations Cup playoffs for a spot in the global tournament.

Morocco’s resurgence signals a new chapter for the Atlas Lions, who are eager to prove their mettle on the continental stage and beyond. Fans are hopeful that this qualification will pave the way for a return to the World Cup, a feat last achieved in 2007.
