Burkina Faso/Gendarmerie: Monument inaugurated for the heroes of the National Gendarmerie
On November 14, 2023, leaders of the national gendarmerie in Burkina Faso inaugurated the monument dedicated to the heroes of the military institution. The ceremony took place during the commemoration of the day honoring heroes who fell on the battlefield.
November 14, 2021, marks the date of a jihadist attack against gendarmes in Inata, in northern Burkina Faso, during which at least 57 people were killed.
Today, the monument for the heroes of the gendarmerie stands within the Paspanga Camp in Ouagadougou.
According to military authorities, it is intended to pay tribute and celebrate all gendarmes who have fallen in the line of duty.
It also serves as a symbol of the gendarmerie’s resilience against wrongdoers. The site is considered a place for reflection, remembrance, and a landmark for present and future generations.
The inaugural ceremony of the gendarmerie heroes’ monument was presided over by the Chief of Staff of the National Gendarmerie, Lieutenant Colonel Kouagri Natama, and was attended by former chiefs of staff of the gendarmerie and current personnel.
Religious services are also planned for Friday, November 17, and Sunday, November 19, 2023, to pray for the souls of the illustrious departed members of the gendarmerie.
