Algeria reaffirms its commitment to peace and stability in Mali

In response to recent developments in Mali, the Minister of Foreign Affairs in Algeria has summoned the Republic of Mali’s Ambassador, Mahamane Amadou Maiga, as detailed in an official press release from the ministry. During the meeting, Algeria’s commitment to peace, security, and stability in Mali was underscored, emphasizing three core principles.

Firstly, Algeria reiterated its steadfast commitment to Mali’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and national unity.

Secondly, the conviction was expressed that the peaceful path remains the sole guarantee for achieving enduring peace.

Lastly, the importance of national reconciliation was emphasized as a crucial element in preserving Mali’s sovereignty and unity.

The Minister recalled Algeria’s communiqué from December 13, urging all Malian parties to renew their dedication to the Peace Agreement resulting from the Algiers process.

Ambassador Ahmed Attaf informed his Malian counterpart that recent meetings with leaders of the signatory movements aligned with the spirit of this communiqué.

Expressing hope for the Malian government’s continued commitment to the agreement, Attaf called on Mali to actively engage in Algeria’s efforts to rejuvenate the peace process.

He stressed the special relationship between Algeria and Mali, noting Algeria’s dedication to supporting Mali’s journey towards peace, reconciliation, security, stability, and prosperity.

As the Chairman of the Follow-up Committee for the Malian Peace Agreement stemming from the Algiers process, Algeria is actively fulfilling its role with a commitment to fostering peace and reconciliation, concluded the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
