Burkina Faso: The Burkinabe army carry out a successful anti-terrorist operation near Markoye

On Sunday, January 21, 2024, the Burkinabe army achieved a significant victory against terrorism by eliminating several terrorist leaders and their lieutenants in the vicinity of Markoye.

This operation is part of the ongoing efforts of the army to maintain pressure on criminals operating in the tri-border area.

Since the beginning of the year, the Burkinabe army has heightened its vigilance along the border in the tri-border region, adopting a proactive approach to counter terrorist threats.

Authorities have maintained increased surveillance, responding swiftly to suspicious movements.

As part of this strategy, radars detected a pickup truck loaded with weapons and ammunition, escorted by motorcycles, heading towards Oueldi north of Markoye.

The pickup was transporting a terrorist leader who had just entered Burkinabe territory.

Security forces immediately responded, engaging the enemy in a confrontation that resulted in the elimination of several terrorist leaders and their lieutenants.

This successful operation underscores the continued commitment of the Burkinabe army to ensuring national security and neutralizing terrorist threats in the region.

Security forces remain mobilized to counter any attempts of terrorist infiltration and maintain peace in the tri-border region.
