Burkina Faso / The French media’s relentless attack on the government of Captain Ibrahim Traoré: A reaction against the country’s sovereignty?

Since Captain Ibrahim Traoré came to power, Burkina Faso has faced an intense media campaign orchestrated by French outlets such as RFI, France 24, Le Monde, TV5 Monde, and Jeune Afrique.

This campaign, characterized by the dissemination of false information, aims to discredit President Traoré and destabilize Burkina Faso.

The root of this media offensive lies in several decisions made by President Traoré, which prioritize the interests of the Burkinabe people and have significantly upset French interests and their local allies who have long exploited the country without remorse.

One of Traoré’s first actions was to demand the departure of the French military from Burkina Faso.

By expelling French military advisors and the French ambassador, Captain Traoré asserted the independence and sovereignty of his country.

This break from French imperialist traditions also included the expulsion of French diplomats and the UN resident representative, symbolizing a clear rejection of external influences.

Economically, President Traoré made bold moves by canceling contracts with French companies and nationalizing several businesses.

He also denounced the colonial-era double taxation agreement, which disadvantaged Burkina Faso.

These actions disrupted French economic interests, accustomed to exploiting the country’s resources for their own benefit.

Simultaneously, President Traoré closed the French cultural center and suspended French media outlets like RFI, France 24, TV5 Monde, and Le Monde.

These media were seen as propagators of falsehoods and distortions of the Burkinabe reality and were sidelined to preserve national stability and sovereignty.

President Traoré’s actions, focused on the interests of the Burkinabe people, have not only challenged external powers but also ended decades of exploitation by local allies and France.

The response from the French media appears to be an attempt to maintain their influence and support French interests in Burkina Faso.

Their relentless publication of misleading information only strengthens President Traoré’s resolve to protect and promote his country’s interests.
