UEFA Disciplinary actions: Merih Demiral suspended, Jude Bellingham fined

Jude Bellingham and Merih Demiral have received their disciplinary verdicts from UEFA.

Turkish defender Merih Demiral, who played a crucial role in his team’s Euro 2024 last-16 victory over Austria, has been handed a two-match suspension.

This comes after his controversial goal celebration, where he made a “grey wolf” gesture, associated with a far-right Turkish group.

As a result, Demiral will miss the quarter-final against the Netherlands and a potential semi-final, as reported by Bild.

Similarly, Jude Bellingham has been fined €20,000 for his celebration after scoring an equalizer against Slovakia in the Euro 2024 last-16.

The English midfielder explained that his gesture was an inside joke and meant no disrespect to the Slovaks. Fortunately for the Real Madrid player, he remains available for selection by Gareth Southgate for the upcoming matches.

This disciplinary action echoes the punishment given to Albania’s Arlind Daku for singing nationalist chants with fans.
