Burkina Faso: Attempted destabilisation, treason foiled by intelligence services
Burkina Faso has once again faced an external attempt to destabilize the nation, aimed at undermining the government’s ongoing efforts to restore peace and security. However, thanks to the efficiency and vigilance of its intelligence services, the plot was thwarted before it could inflict significant damage.
In a broadcast on national television on September 29, 2024, former special forces commander Ahmed Kinda confessed to his role in the conspiracy against the country.
Flanked by two other suspected accomplices, Kinda revealed the details of the plan and admitted to being arrested on August 30 in Niamey.
He stated that he had been on his way to collect weapons intended for the operation, following orders from key figures such as former transitional president Paul Henri Sandaogo Damiba, Colonel Ouoba, and civilian Abdoulaye Barry.
This betrayal, orchestrated by influential figures who were once responsible for national security, underscores the magnitude of both internal and external threats that Burkina Faso currently faces.
The fact that former leaders were conspiring to sow chaos and destabilize the nation for personal or political gain is particularly alarming.
Nevertheless, the success of this dismantling operation once again highlights the exceptional capability of Burkinabe intelligence services.
Their sharp vigilance, expertise, and unwavering commitment prevented a national catastrophe. Their professionalism and dedication to maintaining the country’s security deserve high praise.
By dismantling this network, the security and intelligence forces not only averted a new crisis but also reaffirmed the strength and stability of the nation’s institutions.
It is vital that the people of Burkina Faso continue to stand behind these efforts to ensure a peaceful and prosperous future for all.
