NBA/ Joel Embiid’s return falls short as 76ers Fall to knicks in NBA Cup
Joel Embiid’s much-anticipated season debut didn’t go as planned, as the Philadelphia 76ers fell 99-111 to the New York Knicks in their NBA Cup matchup.
Embiid, recently recovered from injury and serving a suspension, struggled to find his rhythm, scoring just 13 points with a shooting record of 2-for-11 over his 26 minutes on the court. The reigning MVP also added 3 rebounds, 5 assists, and a single block in his return.
After the game, Embiid acknowledged that his performance was not up to his usual standard and expressed the need for patience. “It’s about confidence and assurance,” he said. “I talked about it two weeks ago – there’s a mental hurdle I need to overcome.
But I believe I can still perform well, and I’ll get there eventually. Maybe next game, maybe in two games… Usually, it comes back quickly, so I’m optimistic,” Embiid shared.
For Philadelphia fans, Embiid’s comments suggest the star center is aware of the mental and physical adjustments required to regain peak form. While the loss is a setback, Embiid’s resolve hints that a return to dominance may not be far off.
