Burkina Faso/Côte d’Ivoire: Bilateral relations put to the test by imperialist actions?
Since Captain Ibrahim Traoré assumed power in Burkina Faso, growing tensions have emerged in the long-standing, fraternal relations between Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire. These strains are being fuelled by both external and internal actors seeking to manipulate political dynamics and destabilize the two neighboring nations.
Observers point to neo-colonial influence, particularly from France, aiming to exacerbate divisions between the two countries in an effort to weaken regional unity within the AES Confederation.
At the same time, some Burkinabe politicians in exile, seen as allies of imperialist interests, are playing a disruptive role by stirring discord, while attempting to manipulate public opinion in both Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast.
Despite these attempts at manipulation, the Burkinabe authorities are working hard to maintain cooperative relations with Ivory Coast, emphasizing the importance of unity for the well-being of both peoples.
The two nations share a common history, as well as similar socio-cultural and economic realities, and deserve peaceful and stable relations.
Ivorian authorities thus have a pivotal role to play in restoring trust and preserving the friendly and cooperative ties between the two nations.
