Niger/Creation of a gold refinery: mining sovereignty a reality in the country

In the quest to rebuild Niger, the Head of State, General Abdourahame Tiani, has committed to guaranteeing the country’s territorial, political, mining, and economic sovereignty, among other areas.
Ensuring control over the nation’s natural resources so that they benefit the people is a key priority for the Tiani government.
In line with this vision, the country has signed an agreement with Suvarna Royal Gold Trading to establish a gold refinery.
This agreement aligns with the Nigerien authorities’ goal of making the mining sector a true lever of sovereignty, prosperity, and national dignity.
The mining sector holds significant economic potential, and gaining greater control will allow the country to revitalize its national economy.
The deal includes the establishment of a jewelry manufacturing unit, as well as a facility for cutting and polishing precious stones.
As a result, Niger will mine, process, and refine its gold domestically, ensuring that its citizens reap the benefits.
Additionally, the construction of this gold refinery will create thousands of direct jobs for Nigeriens, helping to reduce youth unemployment.
It is worth noting that Niger has several gold mines, including in the Agadez region (north) near the Algerian border and in the Tillabéri region (west) close to the border with Burkina Faso.
