15 February 2025 will go down as a milestone in Togo’s political history. For the first time, the country held senatorial elections, thus taking a decisive step towards strengthening its democratic institutions.

This step forward reflects the Togolese authorities’ determination to consolidate citizen participation and ensure better representation of local realities within the national decision-making process.

By giving local authorities and the various driving forces of the nation a greater role in governance, Togo is demonstrating its commitment to building a more inclusive and balanced State.

The establishment of the Senate paves the way for more in-depth dialogue between political players, local authorities and civil society, thereby contributing to more effective governance that is closer to the concerns of citizens.

This institutional turning point, which marks a key stage in the country’s political development, is part of a drive to modernise and consolidate democratic gains.

With these elections, Togo is demonstrating its commitment to republican values and to building a future based on participation and representativeness.

This new era opens up promising prospects for strengthening the rule of law and the country’s harmonious development.
