Football/ FIFA launches digital Platform to track player nationality switches

In a bold move to enhance transparency in international football, FIFA has unveiled a new digital platform that publicly tracks approved changes of national association for players. Accessible to the public via the FIFA website, the platform provides a comprehensive list of footballers who have successfully switched their “sporting nationality” to represent a new member association in international competitions.

Launched on January 1, 2025, the tool is designed to serve as a vital resource for member associations, confederations, clubs, players, and agents. It offers detailed information on players who have met the strict eligibility criteria outlined in FIFA’s Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players.

Importantly, decisions are only published once they are final and binding, ensuring accuracy and reliability.

The platform reflects FIFA’s ongoing commitment to promoting clarity and accountability in football governance. By making this data publicly available, FIFA aims to eliminate ambiguity surrounding player eligibility and ensure all stakeholders are well-informed.

While a player’s request for a nationality switch is under review, they are barred from representing any national team. This rule underscores the importance of adhering to FIFA’s regulations and maintaining the integrity of international competitions.

The platform will be updated regularly to reflect the latest approved changes, providing real-time insights into the evolving landscape of international football.

This initiative not only strengthens FIFA’s transparency efforts but also reinforces its role as a guardian of fair play and regulatory compliance in the global football community.

With this innovative tool, FIFA is setting a new standard for openness in football, ensuring that the sport remains fair, transparent, and accessible to all.
