Serie A postpones matches as World mourns Pope Francis

Italian football paid tribute to Pope Francis on Monday, postponing four Serie A fixtures following the pontiff’s death at 88. The Vatican confirmed his passing after a recent hospitalization for infection.

Torino vs. Udinese, Cagliari vs. Fiorentina, Genoa vs. Lazio, and Parma vs. Juventus—set for Easter Monday—were rescheduled to Wednesday, April 23, at 17:30 BST.

A lifelong fan of Argentina’s San Lorenzo, Pope Francis was honored by the club: “Our hearts ache… His passion united us in prayer.” Serie A teams also shared condolences, with Roma calling him “a moral beacon for our time.”
