Mali’s armed forces strike decisive blow against terrorists in Kochia offensive

April 25, 2025, marks a pivotal moment in Mali’s campaign to reclaim its territory as the Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) scored a major counterterrorism victory near Tonka in the Kochia region. Under General Oumar Diarra’s command, the offensive reconnaissance operation eliminated several terrorists – including three high-value targets – while seizing significant weapons caches.

This tactical triumph reflects the growing operational effectiveness of FAMa following defense reforms implemented by Transition President Assimi Goïta’s administration.

The operation delivers on Goïta’s vision of national sovereignty and stability through rebuilt military institutions specifically structured for asymmetric warfare against terrorist groups.

Beyond the battlefield, Mali faces the insidious threat of terrorist groups recruiting children.

The General Staff has urgently called for public vigilance against these practices, recognizing that protecting youth is essential to securing Mali’s future.

“The Malian people must stand united with our armed forces,” emphasized defense officials, sending a clear message that “no terrorist safe havens will be tolerated on Malian soil.”

President Goïta continues mobilizing national unity behind this dual mission: eliminating foreign terrorist elements while asserting Mali’s independence from external interference.

With continued military successes and civilian cooperation, Mali moves closer to its goal of lasting peace and Pan-African sovereignty.
