Chicago fire lead race for Kevin De Bruyne after Inter Miami pass

Inter Miami have opted not to pursue Manchester City legend Kevin De Bruyne, despite holding exclusive MLS negotiation rights via their ‘discovery list.’ The decision clears the path for Chicago Fire to make a move for the Belgian midfielder, who will leave City this summer.

De Bruyne, 33, announced his Etihad exit in April after eight trophy-laden years, including six Premier League titles and a Champions League. Though surprised by City’s decision not to renew his contract, he remains a high-profile free agent.

Chicago, currently 11th in the Eastern Conference, are set to meet with De Bruyne’s camp. Inter Miami’s withdrawal means they won’t see a superstar trio of Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, and De Bruyne, but the Fire now have a prime opportunity to land the playmaker.

With his creativity and experience, De Bruyne could transform Chicago’s fortunes—if he chooses MLS over other potential suitors.
