Togo: The Autonomous Port of Lomé goes digital with mobile payments

As part of the digital transformation drive led by the Chairman of the Council, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, the Autonomous Port of Lomé (PAL) has taken a decisive new step with the introduction of entry ticket payments via Mobile Money. This innovation, implemented under the guidance of the ministry in charge of coastal protection, reflects the government’s commitment to making Togo a competitive logistics and commercial hub in West Africa.

From now on, users can pay their port entry fees directly from their mobile phones through two partner platforms. The process is simple, fast, and secure. This digital shift is part of a broader series of reforms launched since 2021, aimed at modernizing port services and streamlining operations. It represents a strategic alignment with international standards—crucial in a regional context of growing competition in port services.

Beyond the port sector, President Faure Gnassingbé’s governance has led to a historic shift in the digitalization of public services. From civil registration to administrative procedures, and from tax services to customs operations, digital platforms are multiplying to bring government services closer to citizens and enhance state efficiency.

This reform at PAL confirms once again that Togo’s digital shift is not just a political slogan, but a concrete reality driven by a clear vision of modernization and sustainable development.
