Business/ Nike set to increase prices in US amid tariff pressures

Nike will raise prices on select footwear and apparel in the US starting June 1, with hikes of up to 10onshoesover10onshoesover100 and 2–2–10 on clothing. While the sportswear giant cited routine “price adjustments,” the move follows rival Adidas’ warning that US tariffs would force cost increases.

Nearly all Nike products are manufactured in Asia including Vietnam, which produces half its footwear where President Trump’s 10% base tariffs remain in effect. Additional “reciprocal” levies (up to 54%) loom in July unless trade negotiations succeed.

The company acknowledged “external factors” like tariffs impacting operations, though budget-friendly items like Air Force 1s and kids’ products will avoid increases.

The decision coincides with Nike’s renewed Amazon partnership to revive slumping online sales, which fell up to 25% in key markets.

With Vietnam-facing tariffs at 46%, Nike’s pricing strategy reflects broader industry strain. Analysts warn consumer demand may soften as brands pass trade costs to shoppers.

As tariffs reshape global supply chains, Nike’s pivot underscores the balancing act between profitability and affordability.
