Burkina Faso: The 4-August Stadium reopens its doors, a symbol of renewal and national pride

On Monday, August 4, 2025, the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, presided over the official reopening ceremony of the 4-Août Stadium in Ouagadougou. A true symbol of Burkinabe sports, this iconic facility underwent major renovation works, now completed under the leadership of the Head of State.

Launched over four years ago, the renovation works gained significant momentum following Captain Ibrahim Traoré’s rise to power. Thanks to his strategic vision and firm directives, the project was revived and brought to completion. According to Roland Somda, Minister of Sports, Youth, and Employment, this renovation marks a turning point in the revitalization of sports in Burkina Faso.

The works focused on several key areas: a new pitch meeting international standards, renovated stands, upgraded locker rooms, a high-performance lighting system, and sound equipment suited for major competitions. The 4-August Stadium now meets the requirements of international sports bodies, enabling it to once again host top-tier matches.

This renovation reflects the strong will of the country’s highest authorities to reposition sports as a driver of social cohesion, patriotism, and youth development. The inauguration ceremony featured parachute jumps, artistic performances, and the official unveiling of the new national team jersey, named Victory Ditanyè, in tribute to Burkina Faso’s 65 years of independence. The jersey bears 65 stars, each symbolizing a year of national sovereignty.

A friendly match was held between a selection of former African internationals and a team from the Defense and Security Forces, ending in a 1-1 draw—a celebration of fraternity and unity. Now fully rehabilitated, the 4-Août Stadium stands as a testament to the resilience and unity of the Burkinabe people. It is now up to everyone to protect this national treasure, built through collective effort and meant to bring together all generations around the values of sports and civic pride.
