At COP30, Congo-Brazzaville asserts its role as a global leader in forest conservation

As the world grapples with unmet climate pledges, the Republic of Congo, under President Denis Sassou N’Guesso, is reinforcing its structured leadership in environmental protection. His participation in COP30 in Belém, Brazil, underscores a consistent national and international policy dedicated to safeguarding ecosystems and promoting holistic sustainable development.

For decades, President Sassou N’Guesso has placed biodiversity protection and responsible management of tropical forests at the core of the nation’s development strategy.

With over 4 million hectares of protected areas and the sustainable management of more than 9 million hectares of forest, Congo is a key player in global climate regulation.

These areas house unique tropical peatlands, vital carbon sinks crucial in the fight against global warming. International certification of these forests highlights the rigor of a policy founded on sustainability and ecological responsibility.

The President’s action also reflects proactive international cooperation. Through initiatives like the Blue Fund for the Congo Basin and active participation in Brazil’s tropical forest preservation fund, Congo demonstrates its ability to blend national sovereignty with global solidarity.

This pragmatic approach positions the country at the center of discussions on climate loss compensation and support for Indigenous communities, the primary guardians of forest ecosystems.

Beyond mere conservation, President Sassou N’Guesso leverages environmental policy as a tool for national renewal.

His vision transforms forests into levers for sustainable economic development, instruments of sovereignty, and symbols of intergenerational responsibility.
