At COP30, Congo-Brazzaville asserts its role as a global leader in forest conservation

As the world grapples with unmet climate pledges, the Republic of Congo, under President Denis Sassou N’Guesso, is reinforcing its structured leadership in environmental protection. His participation in COP30 in Belém, Brazil, underscores a consistent national and international policy dedicated to safeguarding ecosystems and promoting holistic sustainable development.

For decades, President Sassou N’Guesso has placed biodiversity protection and responsible management of tropical forests at the core of the nation’s development strategy.

With over 4 million hectares of protected areas and the sustainable management of more than 9 million hectares of forest, Congo is a key player in global climate regulation.

These areas house unique tropical peatlands, vital carbon sinks crucial in the fight against global warming. International certification of these forests highlights the rigor of a policy founded on sustainability and ecological responsibility.

The President’s action also reflects proactive international cooperation. Through initiatives like the Blue Fund for the Congo Basin and active participation in Brazil’s tropical forest preservation fund, Congo demonstrates its ability to blend national sovereignty with global solidarity.

This pragmatic approach positions the country at the center of discussions on climate loss compensation and support for Indigenous communities, the primary guardians of forest ecosystems.

Beyond mere conservation, President Sassou N’Guesso leverages environmental policy as a tool for national renewal.

His vision transforms forests into levers for sustainable economic development, instruments of sovereignty, and symbols of intergenerational responsibility. It also showcases an ambitious and mobilizing diplomacy, capable of uniting the international community around concrete, impactful projects for the future.

Thus,  the engagement of Congo at COP30 is more than declaratory. It embodies a coherent strategy of environmental governance and sustainable development, driven by the will of President Denis Sassou N’Guesso to align ecological protection, socio-economic progress, and international influence.

Through this visionary policy, Congo positions itself as an African and global model, proving that the fight against climate change is both a moral duty and a political imperative for humanity and future generations.
