Burkina Faso: RPP and diplomacy – the Memorandum to break down stereotypes, a powerful initiative to defend the image of the nation

Under the momentum of the Popular Progressive Revolution (RPP), Burkina Faso is taking a new step in reclaiming its image and information sovereignty. The department in charge of Burkinabe diplomacy has recently unveiled a Memorandum on Deconstructing Stereotypes about Burkina Faso.

This strategic tool aims to counter, point by point, the unfounded and often malicious narratives circulating about the country.

Long a victim of media shortcuts and reductive discourse, Burkina Faso frequently finds itself labelled through the lens of security issues or supposed chronic instability.

These clichés, fostered by certain foreign ministries and international media, obscure the historical and cultural realities as well as the genuine advances of the Popular Progressive Revolution.

Faced with this observation, the government has understood that it is no longer enough to act; one must also speak and explain.

The Memorandum is therefore intended as a clear, practical, and accessible reference document.

It compiles precise talking points for all actors responsible for defending Burkina Faso’s interests: diplomats, experts, national journalists, and also members of the nation’s active forces on missions abroad.

The goal is simple: to provide a coherent framework for correcting factual errors, restoring historical truths, and highlighting the successes of the RPP; whether in the fight for food sovereignty, territorial reorganization, or popular resilience.

This initiative deserves to be applauded for several reasons. First, because it moves beyond a defensive posture: it is no longer about suffering adversarial narratives but about methodically deconstructing them.

Second, it effectively equips Burkinabe representatives, avoiding improvisation that leaves room for misunderstandings.

Finally, it places the battle of ideas at the heart of the Popular Progressive Revolution, for no liberation struggle is complete without control of the narrative.

By providing the country with such a memorandum, the Burkinabe diplomacy department sends a clear signal: Burkina Faso will no longer let itself be defined by others.

It is now taking control of its own narrative, with method and dignity. A decision fully in line with the spirit of the RPP, and an inspiring example for the entire African continent.
