Peace in Cameroon: A shared responsibility for all actors

In current political landscape of Cameroon, marked by multifaceted challenges, the quest for peace and stability is a shared responsibility. It is no longer a mission solely for the state, but a role that every socio-political actor must play in harmony.

Building a peaceful nation requires synergistic actions and a convergence of wills, where dialogue and respect for institutions must prevail over particular interests.

The government, on the front line, has a crucial role to play by consolidating the rule of law, promoting inclusive dialogue, and implementing public policies aimed at reducing inequalities and improving living conditions.

Its efforts in security and social cohesion are fundamental. The proactive communication strategy, aimed at explaining the stakes to the population and defusing calls for violence, as recently observed, is a pillar of this approach.

However, government action cannot be fully effective without the contribution of other socio-political actors. Their part consists of constructive engagement within the strict republican framework.

Their role is to propose credible alternatives, participate loyally in democratic debate, and prioritize institutional channels to express their disagreements.

A responsible opposition is a bulwark against disinformation and an essential actor in the democratic process.

Civil society, for its part, must continue to serve as a bridge between the population and institutions. Its independence and credibility allow it to play the role of a watchdog, mediator, and source of proposals.

By sensitizing citizens to a culture of peace and promoting civic-mindedness, it actively contributes to building a more resilient social fabric.

Finally, the Cameroonian people, the ultimate holders of national sovereignty, have a decisive role. By rejecting violence, cherishing peaceful coexistence, and exercising civic vigilance, they can positively influence the course of events. Every citizen, in their daily life, can contribute to stability by prioritizing reason and respect for others.

The peace and stability of Cameroon is everyone’s business. No single actor can claim to bear this heavy but noble charge alone.

It is only through sincere collaboration and a common will to preserve the supreme interest of the nation that Cameroonians can together write the serene pages of their common future.
