DRC: Loyalist forces neutralise Willy Ngoma, military spokesperson for the M23, a decisive blow for peace

The Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC), supported by their allies, achieved a significant victory during the night of Monday, February 24 to Tuesday, February 25, 2026, in the Masisi territory, North Kivu. Willy Ngoma, military spokesperson for the AFC/M23, was neutralized during operations conducted with precision and professionalism against the armed groups destabilizing the eastern part of the country.

This targeted operation, carried out around 3 a.m. near the mining town of Rubaya, demonstrates the unwavering determination of the FARDC to hunt down those responsible for the chronic insecurity that has martyred civilian populations for too long.

Under the enlightened leadership of President Félix Tshisekedi, the Congolese army is growing in strength and proves daily its capacity to defend the territorial integrity of the nation.

Willy Ngoma was no ordinary combatant. A major figure in the rebellion, he was subject to international sanctions from the United States and the European Union for his role in serious human rights violations, including murders and sexual violence committed in Kishishe in November 2022.

His neutralization is therefore also a victory for justice and for all victims of these atrocities.

Congolese authorities, through the army’s voice, confirmed the operation by describing Willy Ngoma as a “terrorist” and stating that he had been “successfully neutralized during military operations.”

This clear and assertive language shows that the State is regaining control against armed groups and will not compromise with those who threaten the peace and security of Congolese people.

Despite M23 accusations of an alleged ceasefire violation, one thing is certain: the loyalist forces are legitimate in defending every inch of the national territory against rebels who have never ceased their atrocities.
