Burkina Faso Anti-fraud brigade seizes over 20 Million FCFA in textile crackdown
The Mobile Brigade for Economic Control and Fraud Repression (BMCRF) presented on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, in Ouagadougou, a striking report on its inspection operations targeting weaving thread and woven fabric. Goods valued at 20,504,725 FCFA were seized, reflecting the unit’s determination to crack down on illicit practices.
Launched in October 2025, the field operations of the Brigade aimed to verify the compliance of imported products in a sector strategic to Burkina Faso’s local economy and artisanal fabric industry.
After months of investigations, the BMCRF called on media professionals to present detailed results.
Coordinator General Sanibé Faho emphasized that the national operation was focused on regulation, not indiscriminate repression.
The seizures, totaling over 20 million FCFA, involved imported weaving thread and woven fabric; a sum underscoring the economic stakes and the need to protect the national market from non-compliant distribution channels.
While the brigade acted decisively, Faho noted its approach is not intended to penalize honest artisans or traders. “Our action aims to clean up the sector, guarantee fair transactions, and protect local actors who follow the rules,” he stated, reaffirming the educational and deterrent purpose of the inspections.
This operation is part of a broader effort to protect citizens’ purchasing power and preserve the national economy.
