Burkina Faso: “Deme Sira” or the splendour of popular sovereignty: when the hearts of the Burkinabe tip the balance

November 14, 2025, will remain etched in the annals of national cohesion as the starting point of a historic mobilization. Launched under the banner of solidarity, the Deme Sira national campaign not only achieved its objectives but above all proved a fundamental truth:  The sovereignty of Burkina Faso is not decreed it is embodied in the fraternal spirit of its sons and daughters.

Recently published figures bear witness to this collective fervor. In just a few weeks, the total amount mobilized reached 1,132,254,212 CFA francs.

Behind this sum lies a mosaic of generosity: 635,473,509 CFA francs in financial contributions, coming from ordinary citizens and regions alike, from the dynamic private sector and committed partners.

To this are added 496,780,703 CFA francs in in-kind donations food and essential supplies; bringing relief to thousands of vulnerable families.

This financial and logistical feat goes beyond simple assistance. It embodies the triumph of living together.

In a demanding security and humanitarian context, every coin, every bag of grain offered is an act of resilience.

The Burkinabe state, true to its role as guarantor, also contributed 125 million CFA francs, demonstrating perfect synergy between public authority and the active force of civil society.

Yet beyond the figures, it is the symbols that move and consecrate this sovereignty.

The auction of paintings created by internally displaced children and soldiers wounded in operations raised 11 million CFA francs.

This gesture carries immense power: those often perceived as victims become, through brush and creativity, actors in their own recovery.

The sum, fully redistributed to the beneficiaries, completes a chain of dignity where no one is left behind.

Deme Sira lives up to its name. It charts the path of a Burkina Faso that rejects dependency and fully embraces its destiny.

By pooling their resources, the Burkinabe have sent a clear message to the nation and the world: in the face of trials, the people remain sovereign.

This campaign confirms that the gold of our country lies not only in its soil but in the greatness of spirit of its citizens.
