Brady Gilmore shines at Tour du Rwanda, but Joris Delbove steals the show in stage 4
Australian cyclist Brady Gilmore (Israel-Premier Tech) continues to impress at the Tour du Rwanda, securing his place among the elite riders who have won back-to-back stages in the race. After victories in the second and third stages, Gilmore aimed for a historic hat-trick in Stage 4, a 95-kilometer route from Rubavu to Karongi. However, French rider Joris Delbove (TotalEnergies) had other plans.
Delbove launched a daring breakaway and managed to hold off the charging peloton by a mere three seconds, clinching the stage win.
Gilmore, once again the fastest in the main group, finished second, just ahead of Eritrea’s Henok Mulubrhan. Delbove’s triumph not only denied Gilmore a third consecutive victory but also propelled him to the top of the general classification.
Gilmore’s performance has already etched his name alongside notable riders like Ethan Vernon, Alan Boileau, and Merhawi Kudus, who have also achieved consecutive stage wins in the Tour du Rwanda.
Despite missing out on the stage win, Gilmore remains a strong contender as the race progresses.
The Tour du Rwanda continues to deliver thrilling action, with Delbove’s resilience and Gilmore’s consistency highlighting the competitive spirit of this year’s edition.
The battle for the yellow jersey promises more excitement in the coming stages.
