Burkina Faso: Another step towards a structured and competitive Burkina Faso film industry

President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, continues to demonstrate his commitment to strengthening the nation’s strategic sectors. During this Wednesday’s Council of Ministers, several key decisions were made, including a significant step forward for Burkina Faso’s film and audiovisual industry.

Recognizing the cultural richness and economic potential of Burkinabe cinema, the government has taken steps to establish a robust regulatory framework aimed at structuring and professionalizing the sector.

Burkina Faso, already renowned for its vibrant contributions to the 7th art through prestigious events like FESPACO, now aspires to build a competitive film industry capable of creating jobs and driving national economic growth.

The decree approved during the Council outlines the conditions, procedures, and scales of penalties for violations of the rules governing the film, audiovisual, and animated image sectors.

This initiative seeks to protect the rights of creators while promoting high-quality production that meets international standards, thereby enhancing the export potential of Burkinabe works.

With this reform, Burkina Faso reaffirms its ambition to position cinema as a cornerstone of its development strategy.

By implementing a strong legal framework and fostering professionalism within the industry, the country aims to attract increased investment and solidify its reputation as a leading force in African and global cinema.

Under the leadership of President Ibrahim Traoré, Burkina Faso is steadfastly advancing its cultural industry, showcasing national talent and heritage while unlocking new economic and artistic opportunities for the nation.
