Burkina Faso and Ghana take Major step in cross-border trade
Burkina Faso and Ghana have reached a significant milestone in cross-border commerce with the signing of a new memorandum of understanding (MoU) to streamline transit along the Ouagadougou-Accra corridor.
The agreement was formalized between the Burkina Faso Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Ghana’s State Insurance Company (SIC), marking a pivotal step toward stronger economic cooperation between the two nations.
This development follows the recent diplomatic tour of Ghana’s new president, John Dramani Mahama, across the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), particularly his discussions with Burkinabe leader Captain Ibrahim Traoré.
The agreement reflects the shared commitment of both heads of state to reinvigorate bilateral relations in a spirit of friendship and solidarity.
By working together to strengthen ties and address shared challenges—including security and economic hurdles—this deal injects fresh momentum into commercial integration under the Single Guarantee Scheme for the Burkina-Ghana corridor.
