Dortmund close in on Sunderland star Jobe Bellingham

Borussia Dortmund are optimistic about signing Sunderland’s rising midfielder Jobe Bellingham, 19, as the teenager eyes a move to follow in his brother Jude’s footsteps.

Jobe, named Championship Young Player of the Year after helping Sunderland secure Premier League promotion, is Dortmund’s top target. Though formal talks haven’t begun, the German club believes his preference aligns with theirs.

Dortmund’s strong season finish winning seven of their last eight games to clinch a Champions League spot has boosted their appeal.

They previously developed Jude, who starred for three years before joining Real Madrid in 2023.

A deal before June 10 would make Jobe eligible for the Club World Cup, where he could face Jude’s Real Madrid.

England U21 boss Lee Carsley confirmed players would be released for the tournament, prioritizing their careers.

Jobe, already capped four times for England U21s, is set to feature in the European U21 Championship this month.

Dortmund’s track record with young talent, including Jude, Erling Haaland, and Jadon Sancho, strengthens their case for his signature.
