Burkina Faso: President Traoré calls for stronger AES unity against imperialist threats

During a historic flag-raising ceremony featuring the inaugural performance of the Confederation of Sahel States (AES) anthem, Burkina Faso’s President Captain Ibrahim Traoré issued a powerful call for deeper cooperation among member states. The symbolic event marked a defining moment in the bloc’s sovereignty journey.

Addressing fellow AES leaders from Mali and Niger, President Traoré emphasized preserving the fraternal bonds that form the confederation’s foundation.

His unifying speech outlined an ambitious vision for a politically and economically sovereign Sahelian alliance capable of resisting foreign destabilization attempts.

The imperialist forces fear our unity,” Traoré warned, urging strengthened military, economic and strategic integration.

His blueprint includes establishing robust shared institutions, creating an integrated market, and presenting a unified geopolitical stance.

Beyond counterterrorism cooperation, the President framed AES consolidation as a revolutionary political project  a liberated Sahelian space free from foreign domination.

His message underscored that only through policy alignment and active solidarity could the bloc thwart external powers opposed to African self-determination.

The ceremony’s military pomp and patriotic symbolism reinforced Traoré’s central thesis: the AES represents an irreversible step toward true Sahelian sovereignty, with Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger writing their collective destiny without external interference.
