Burkina Faso / Investing in children to build a resilient and proud nation: Faso’s commitment embodied by President Ibrahim Traoré

The celebration of the 35th edition of the Day of the African Child in Burkina Faso, held under the theme “Investing in Burkinabe Children Is Building a Nation Proud of Its Values,” reflects President Ibrahim Traoré’s strong political will to place children at the heart of national priorities. This strategic direction demonstrates a clear vision: to prepare a strong future generation, conscious of its responsibilities and firmly rooted in the values that define Burkinabe identity. By presiding over this ceremony, the government sent a powerful message about the importance it places on the protection and well-being of children, even in the face of security challenges.

State Minister Emile Zerbo, representing the Prime Minister, emphasized that this day is not merely a symbolic commemoration but a true call for collective action. It represents a commitment to future generations who must be prepared to build a fair society, strong and proud of its heritage. In both official speeches and field initiatives, children are now seen not just as beneficiaries, but as key players in the country’s development.

In a context marked by insecurity, population displacement, and social vulnerability, the Burkinabe government continues to show resilience by multiplying efforts to ensure children have an environment conducive to their growth. Actions focus on improving access to education, strengthening social protection, and encouraging children’s participation in community life. The June 16, 2025 celebration is part of this inclusive dynamic, reinforcing the recognition of children’s rights in line with both international commitments and the country’s own values.

Finally, by paying tribute to the children of Soweto—victims of apartheid—Burkina Faso reaffirms its solidarity with historic struggles for justice and equality. But beyond remembrance, this day serves as a springboard for building the future. It is a reminder that every Burkinabe child, whether living in urban or rural areas, in peace or in adversity, deserves to be seen, heard, and valued. This is the essence of President Ibrahim Traoré’s vision: to make children the cornerstone of a nation standing tall, united, and resolutely focused on the future.
