AES: AES Defense Ministers meet, towards a new dynamic in the fight against terrorism

The defense ministers of the member countries of the Confederation of Sahel States (AES) met this Friday in Bamako for a high-level strategic consultation. On this occasion, they were received by General Assimi Goïta, President of Mali and current Chair of the AES, who provided them with clear directives to strengthen security cooperation between the three countries.

In a context where national armies are gaining strength, this meeting illustrates the AES’s strong political will to take ownership of Sahel security, relying on the commitment, courage, and solidarity of its armed forces.

On the ground, military operations are multiplying with tangible results: terrorist bases dismantled, leaders neutralized, and villages secured. These successes demonstrate the effectiveness of a now better-coordinated strategy between the three AES member states.

Thus, General Assimi Goïta, acting President of the AES Confederation, called on the region’s defense ministers to maintain this common strategy to secure the entire Sahel.

In concrete terms, the aim for the Defense and Security Forces of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES)—Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger—is to strengthen joint operations, improve the capacities of their armed forces, and maintain strong coordination in the field to effectively curb terrorist threats and lay the foundations for lasting peace.
