Burkina Faso: President Ibrahim Traoré receives ASCE-LC report and reinforces his commitment to cleaning up public governance

In Burkina Faso, the Supreme Authority for State Oversight and the Fight Against Corruption (ASCE-LC) presented its 2023 annual report to the Head of State, President Ibrahim Traoré, this Monday. The report, handed over by State Auditor General Lassané Compaoré, highlights the state of administrative and financial governance in several public institutions.

The 2023 ASCE-LC report sheds stark light on the persistent shortcomings in the management of public resources. Structured in three volumes, the document reveals a cumulative loss of over 33 billion CFA francs to the State, following twelve investigations that have been completed and forwarded to the judiciary.

Under Captain Ibrahim Traoré’s leadership, these revelations come as no surprise; instead, they confirm the need for the deep and courageous reforms initiated since he came to power. The fight against poor governance remains a cornerstone of his transitional agenda, aimed at restoring integrity within the public administration and reestablishing republican order at the heart of state action.

The increased support requested by the State Auditor General also reflects ASCE-LC’s commitment to supporting this presidential drive, led by leadership that places transparency and accountability at the core of national rebuilding efforts.

Beyond the alarming findings, this report highlights the new political era embodied by President Ibrahim Traoré: a resolute state determined to put an end to impunity, restore discipline in public management, and build an honest administration in the service of the Burkinabe people.
