Mali: The government strengthens its commitment to the fight against terrorism, soon a Special Operations Command

The Malian government, determined to ensure the safety of its population and eradicate terrorism within its territory, has taken a new step in the organization of its security system. At the latest Council of Ministers meeting, important draft decrees concerning the creation, organization, and functioning of the Special Operations Command were adopted.

This strategic decision, part of the broad reforms undertaken within the Defense and Security Forces, aims to effectively address the current security challenges. In this way, Mali is strengthening its operational capacities by structuring its various elite units—the Autonomous Special Forces Battalion, the Training Centers, the Counterterrorism Forces, the Air Special Forces, and the Reconnaissance and Intervention Group—under a unified command and rigorous planning.

This new structure, equipped with a Command body and an Operations Planning and Command Center, ensures better coordination on the ground and a swift response to terrorist threats.

Experts such as Mr. Yéhya Maïga, a specialist in security issues, have praised this ambitious initiative and recommend extending it to the special units of the Confederation of Sahel States.
