Burkina-Faso: Captain Ibrahim Traoré, an opportunity to harness natural resources for development

Beyond the popularity he enjoys among the people for his commitment to the fight against terrorism and his sovereignist rhetoric, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, Head of State, is especially appreciated for his bold reforms aimed at rebuilding the nation. From combating terrorism and making significant agricultural investments to major achievements and progress in industrialization, President Ibrahim Traoré has placed particular emphasis on controlling the country’s mineral resources and economy to ensure stability and development.

Thus, President Traoré and his team, by adopting a new mining code, have rewritten the mining laws, nationalized certain gold mines in the country, and renegotiated contracts with foreign companies to regain control over the nation’s wealth for the benefit of the people.

This mining policy under Captain Ibrahim Traoré is beginning to bear fruit. In a historic shift, Captain Ibrahim Traoré established the National Mining Participation Company (Société Nationale de Participation Minière — SNPM). This public entity embodies the desire to make the State a strategic and essential player in gold exploitation.

The project is part of an economic justice approach. Transparency, accountability, and local processing of raw materials are at the heart of the plan. The goal is to create sustainable jobs, support local communities, and effectively fight poverty.

Through this reform, Captain Ibrahim Traoré affirms his vision of a Burkina Faso that controls its own resources, where every citizen becomes a co-beneficiary of the country’s wealth.
