Burkina Faso: Following the death of Alino Faso, the Burkinabe justice system opens an investigation and refuses to be distracted by the fanciful versions of events put forward by the Ivorian authorities

Burkina Faso has taken decisive steps to shed full light on the tragic death of Alino Faso, which occurred under still unclear circumstances in Côte d’Ivoire. In a statement released on August 1, 2025, the Prosecutor of Faso at the Ouaga I High Court announced the opening of a judicial investigation following a complaint filed by the deceased’s family.

This move by Burkinabe authorities has been welcomed by many observers, especially at a time when the narrative put forth by Ivorian authorities—suggesting an alleged suicide—has sparked widespread doubt and outrage. Many believe this version, circulated with questionable haste, aims to cover up a potentially sensitive affair involving certain power circles in Abidjan. In the face of what some see as diversionary tactics, Burkina Faso is demonstrating responsibility and a commitment to transparency.

By launching an independent investigation, Burkinabe justice is taking meaningful steps to meet the demand for truth—both from Alino Faso’s family and from a deeply shocked public. It clearly refuses to accept vague explanations or narratives crafted to manipulate public perception.

The death of Alino Faso, an outspoken activist known for his critical positions, cannot simply be brushed aside. It raises legitimate questions that deserve clear and credible answers—far from diplomatic platitudes or far-fetched stories.

The prosecutor’s decision marks a bold step toward the truth. It shows that Burkina Faso is not yielding to pressure or media disinformation. The Burkinabe people—and indeed, all of Africa that values justice and human dignity—now expect this investigation to be conducted with rigor, independence, and without compromise.
