Burkina Faso: 81 billion CFA francs to modernise the Bobo-Banfora-Orodara roads

Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo has officially launched rehabilitation and paving works on two strategic axes in the country’s western region. The ceremony marked the beginning of large-scale construction that will transform transport infrastructure in the Cascades and Hauts-Bassins regions.

The most significant project concerns the Bobo-Dioulasso–Banfora axis, spanning 84.7 kilometers. Estimated at 63 billion FCFA excluding taxes, the rehabilitation works will extend over 24 months.

This road, connecting the country’s second-largest city to the Cascades region, represents an essential link for the local economy and commercial exchanges.

The second component of this program: the paving of the Banfora–Orodara axis on National Road No. 11.

This 42-kilometer section will be modernized at a cost exceeding 18 billion FCFA excluding taxes, with an 18-month execution period. Once completed, it will provide populations and transporters with a fully passable route in all seasons.

The government’s stated objective is clear: improve mobility of people and goods, and support economic development in the affected areas.

The Western region, rich in agricultural and mining potential, will see its competitiveness strengthened through these modern infrastructures.

These projects align with the broader vision of  Captain Ibrahim Traoré  to equip Burkina Faso with quality infrastructure.

By investing heavily in roads, the government creates conditions for a more dynamic economy and progressive opening up of regions.

Each kilometer of road built or rehabilitated represents a kilometer gained for development.
