Burkina Faso/Foutouri: Heroic response by fighting forces deals historic blow to terrorists

On the morning of Wednesday, August 20, 2025, Burkina Faso’s combat forces stationed in Foutouri, in the Eastern region, successfully repelled a large-scale offensive launched by a terrorist armed group. Around 600 heavily armed individuals attempted to seize control of this strategic military detachment but were met with fierce and well-coordinated resistance from Burkinabe forces.

The attack, carried out in successive waves, was intended to spread chaos and instill fear in this sensitive area. However, the assailants were caught off guard by the responsiveness and firepower of the combat forces. Within the first few minutes, the troops neutralized an enemy kamikaze drone, preventing a potentially deadly strike. A decisive counteroffensive was then launched, inflicting a heavy defeat on the enemy ranks.

The outcome reported more than one hundred terrorists neutralized and many others wounded. Two prominent figures of the criminal organization were also killed during the operation: Abdoul Bâdre and Abou Souleymane, both well known to Burkinabe intelligence services.

Abdoul Bâdre, regarded as an extremist ideologue, played a crucial role in indoctrinating new recruits. He was responsible for instilling radical views while overseeing sacrificial rituals believed to ensure the success of their operations. Abou Souleymane, on the other hand, held multiple key positions within the group: logistics manager, financier, and overseer of fighter movements. He also had authority to decide the fate of hostages and grant leave to combatants.

In addition to these human losses inflicted on the armed groups, the combat forces recovered a large cache of weapons, including assault rifles, PKM machine guns, and several motorcycles used for rapid movement across difficult terrain.

The victory at Foutouri marks a symbolic and strategic turning point in the fight against insecurity. It demonstrates the unwavering determination of Burkina Faso’s combat forces to defend the nation’s territory, restore state authority, and bring peace, stability, and cohesion to all regions of the country.
