Mali: General Assimi GOÏTA takes action to clean up public finances and restore the credibility of the administration

On Monday, August 25, 2025, Army General Assimi Goïta convened a high-level meeting at the Koulouba Palace, bringing together Prime Minister and Head of Government General Abdoulaye Maïga, along with several key ministers. The purpose of the meeting was to review the report of the Integrated Human Resources Management System (SIGRH) and to define immediate measures for implementing its recommendations.

At the heart of the discussions, the Head of State expressed his firm determination to correct the shortcomings highlighted in the report and to establish better discipline in the management of public personnel. He instructed his government to quickly set up a reliable and rigorous mechanism to ensure the proper execution of all recommendations contained in this strategic document.

Following the meeting, the Prime Minister confirmed to the press that the government had received precise directives aimed at ensuring the report’s prompt implementation. Regarding the “ghost workers” identified by the SIGRH, he reminded that a three-month grace period had already been granted, while announcing that additional measures, instructed by the Head of State, will be unveiled in the coming days by the relevant ministers.

The SIGRH report reveals a concerning situation: 36,151 employees were absent from controls, representing 4.57% of the national payroll, equating to an estimated annual loss of 48.28 billion CFA francs. President Assimi Goïta’s decisive response demonstrates his commitment to ending these practices, cleaning up public finances, and strengthening the credibility of the administration in service of citizens.
