Cameroon: Urban security and modernisation, a sustainable vision under the leadership of Paul Biya
Faced with growing challenges of urban and cross-border insecurity, Cameroon has chosen to strengthen its protective and preventive capabilities through an intelligent video surveillance system deployed with method and vision. This system, now operational in major cities and strategic areas across the country, illustrates the state’s determination to ensure the safety of its citizens while consolidating institutional stability.
The installation of 1,500 surveillance cameras and 2,000 portable devices, supported by command centers in Yaoundé and Douala, demonstrates the effectiveness of a coordinated and centralized approach.
This structure not only enables real-time monitoring of urban spaces but also facilitates rapid response to critical situations, thereby enhancing prevention and deterrence against crime and terrorist threats.
The operational effectiveness of this system reflects modern governance, capable of combining technological innovation with strategic oversight.
The security network extends beyond the economic and administrative capitals. Key localities such as Kribi, Kyé-Ossi, Garoua-Boulaï, and areas in the Far North exposed to terrorist attacks are now integrated into this national system.

By securing economic corridors, transit points, and border zones, the state strengthens public confidence and fosters an environment conducive to development and prosperity.
