Burkina Faso and China strengthen security cooperation

Amid persistent terrorist threats and transnational crime, Burkina Faso is diversifying its international partnerships, with China emerging as a key partner in strengthening the logistical, technical, and human capacities of its security forces. The collaboration supports broader efforts to enhance stability and state sovereignty.

The security partnership focuses on several areas, including training, technical assistance, and experience sharing.

Through various cooperation programs, Burkinabe defense and security personnel regularly benefit from training sessions and refresher courses organized with Chinese institutional support.

These initiatives aim to improve professional skills and effectiveness against evolving threats.

Equipment provision represents another important component. China supplies material support that helps modernize the security apparatus of Burkina Faso, providing tools better suited to field realities in surveillance, communications, and operations management.

Beyond material and technical aspects, the cooperation rests on regular political dialogue.

Both countries share the objective of promoting a stable environment essential for economic and social development. Expert exchanges help identify common actions and strengthen coordination.

This collaboration fits within broader diplomatic relations between Ouagadougou and Beijing.

Since restoring ties, both countries have developed multisectoral partnerships encompassing infrastructure, health, education, and security. For Burkina Faso, this cooperation offers access to the experience and expertise of a partner with significant technological capabilities.

As security challenges remain a major concern for many regional states, Burkina Faso and China intend to continue strengthening their partnership.

The shared goal remains supporting stabilization efforts, consolidating national capacities, and contributing to a safer environment for populations.
