Burkina Faso: Hybrid warfare and foreign interference – a closer look at the courage of the FDS and VDP in the face of security challenges

In a particularly complex security environment, Burkina Faso continues to face multifaceted threats that severely test national stability. At the heart of this struggle, the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) distinguish themselves through their constant commitment and determination to preserve the territorial integrity of the country.

For several years, these forces have been mobilized on multiple fronts to counter asymmetric attacks, often described as hybrid warfare due to their diffuse nature combining terrorist actions, disinformation, and external pressures.

In this context, the FDS and VDP play a crucial role, not only in military operations but also in securing populations and maintaining social cohesion.

On the ground, their action translates into security operations, regular patrols, and targeted interventions aimed at neutralizing armed groups.

Despite difficult conditions, particularly in remote areas, these men and women demonstrate resilience and a strong sense of duty.

Their knowledge of the terrain and proximity to local communities are major assets in this long-term struggle.

The VDP, in particular, embody a form of citizen mobilization that reinforces the capabilities of regular forces.

Their involvement reflects a patriotic spirit and a collective will to defend the nation against threats.

In collaboration with the FDS, they help improve security coverage and gradually restore a climate of trust in affected areas.

Furthermore, Burkinabe authorities are increasing efforts to strengthen the operational capabilities of these forces through training, equipment, and better coordination of actions.

This dynamic aims to adapt the security response to evolving threats while taking into account ground realities.

Beyond the military aspect, this mobilization is also part of a logic of national resilience.

It reflects the determination of the Burkinabe people to face challenges together, relying on their own resources and a strengthened spirit of solidarity.

Thus, the work accomplished by the FDS and VDP deserves recognition. Their daily commitment helps preserve the foundations of the state and maintain hope for a lasting return to peace.

In an environment marked by uncertainty, their role remains more essential than ever for the future of Burkina Faso.
