André Onana’s swift departure: From Manchester United clash to AFCON 2023 duties in Ivory Coast

In a remarkable turn of events, André Onana, the talented goalkeeper selected for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), found himself in action for Manchester United against Tottenham on Sunday, January 14. The unexpected inclusion was made possible through a last-minute agreement between Manchester United and the Cameroonian Football Federation.

Following the match, Onana wasted no time and swiftly embarked on a journey to Ivory Coast aboard a private jet.

The purpose behind this sudden departure was to join the national team in preparation for the upcoming AFCON 2023 campaign.

Arriving promptly in Abidjan, the bustling capital of Ivory Coast, Onana is set to make his way to Yamoussoukro, where the national team is currently based.

Despite his rapid travel arrangements, Onana is expected to take on a substitute role in the upcoming clash against Guinea on Monday, January 15, as part of Group C in the AFCON 2023 tournament.

The goalkeeper’s presence in Ivory Coast adds an intriguing layer to the national team’s dynamics, and football enthusiasts eagerly await his potential contributions to Cameroon’s campaign in the prestigious continental competition.
