Mohamed Salah’s injury update: Klopp announces Liverpool star’s return for treatment amidst AFCON uncertainty
Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, shared in a press conference on Sunday evening, following Liverpool’s emphatic victory over Bournemouth in the Premier League, that their star striker, Mohamed Salah, will be returning to Liverpool for further medical attention. Klopp mentioned, «if he is in good shape before the final, he will likely go back to the AFCON», as reported by Mail Sport.
Salah sustained a hamstring injury during Egypt’s recent 2-2 draw against Ghana in the Africa Cup of Nations, a match that took place on the second day of the tournament.
The latest updates indicate that Salah is unlikely to participate in any matches until at least the semi-finals of the competition.
In response to the upcoming clash between Egypt and Cape Verde on Monday, Klopp disclosed that the Egyptian Football Federation has made the decision to exclude Salah from the team for this last group-stage match and any potential round of 16 encounters, given the uncertainty of Egypt’s qualification.
Initially, there was optimism that Salah’s injury was not severe, fueling hopes that he could rejoin the Egyptian national team for the quarter-finals, contingent on their advancement in the tournament.
Klopp’s announcement, however, indicates that Salah’s focus will be on recovering and, if fit, possibly rejoining the Africa Cup of Nations at a later stage, with the timing potentially aligning with the final.
